Bob Forbes is a Master's Animal Science graduate student with a focus on breeding and genetics at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Prior to joining UNL, Bob received his B.S. in Animal Science from Kansas State University and spend a year as a Meat and Poultry Inspector for the Kansas Dept. of Ag. Bob's thesis project has been focused on providing U.S. hair sheep breeders with a new selection index that balances their need for increased meat production with parasite resistance. During his time at UNL, Bob has used coding in R to create bioeconomic models of sheep production systems, calculate index statistics, and test parameter sensitivities. Additionally, Bob assisted in teaching the undergraduate breeding laboratory, where he gave brief lectures, created assignments, and assisted students in their laboratory exercises. Bob intends on graduating in May of 2024 and hopes to use his technical knowledge to assist industry in providing applicable genetic solutions to producer challenges.
