Undergraduate Research Assistant
Michigan State University
East Lansing, Michigan
I have always had a keen interest in diseases and the pathogenic agents that cause them. My first experience working with Lyme disease in a Lyme Disease ecology lab led to my interest in pursuing a career working with diseases, whether through improving animal health on farms as a veterinarian or as a researcher. My background at the MSU Swine Teaching and Research Center as a student veterinary assistant and research assistant in an Animal Molecular Genetics Laboratory led by Dr. Catherine Ernst has also led to my interest in biosecurity, research, and working with pigs. My goal is to first obtain acceptance into a dual DVM/PhD program focusing on swine production to meet my career goal of becoming a veterinarian in an academic research setting. I then plan to enhance welfare on swine farms by preventing, controlling, and eradicating disease outbreaks and simultaneously fostering social, environmental, and economic sustainability.
