Sherbrooke, Quebec
Dr. Danyel Bueno Dalto is a veterinarian grown up in Brazil. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Animal Sciences from Universidade Estadual de Londrina during which he moved to Canada to work as a research assistant at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. His Ph.D. was focused on the study of the dietary sources and levels of selenium and their interactions with vitamin B6 in gestating sows on the redox balance and the development of porcine embryos. Dr. Bueno Dalto has also completed three postdoctoral fellowships studying the bioavailability of vitamins and trace minerals in growing pigs, as well as the metabolic homeostasis of trace minerals in post-weaned piglets. Since 2020 he is a researcher scientist at the Sherbrooke Research and Development Center of Agricuture and Agri-Food Canada in the domain of vitamins and trace minerals nutrition to swine. By developing innovative nutritional strategies using vitamins and trace minerals, his research program aims to improve reproductive performance of sows (litter size, litter homogeneity), increase robustness of pre- and post-weaning piglets (reducing the prophylactic use of antibiotics and zinc oxyde to these animals) and decrease the environmental impact of pig production through the use of optimal levels of trace minerals in pig feed.
