Graduate Research Assistant
Kansas State University
Fairmont, Minnesota
Larissa completed her Masters in Applied Swine Nutrition at K-State in 2021 and is currently a Ph.D. candidate. Originally from Minnesota, Larissa grew up in the swine industry through her family’s commercial swine operation and involvement in the show pig industry. She received her Bachelors in Animal Science from Iowa State University in 2020. Her involvement in research as an undergraduate and through internships helped develop her passion for swine nutrition and played an important role in her decision to pursue her education further into graduate school. Her PhD research has focused on evaluating the effects of folic acid and zinc oxide in nursery pig diets, determining the impact of active vitamin D in nursery pig growth performance and bone characteristics, and conducting a meta-regression analysis on Skycis inclusion in grow-finish pigs. During her PhD, Larissa has gained experience in data management and statical analysis as well as joining weekly conference calls with commercial research staff. Larissa currently serves as the swine undergraduate research coordinator where she oversees undergraduate research projects. Upon completion of her Ph.D. program, Larissa aims to continue to pursue her passion for the swine industry through her professional career as a production nutritionist.
