Lauren Brizgys is a Ph.D. candidate in the department of Animal Sciences under the direction of Scott Radcliffe at Purdue University. She is interested in management and nutritional intervention strategies used to mitigate the detrimental endocrinological, immunological, and physiological stress responses in swine production. Currently, her research focuses on dietary interventions to mitigate weaning and transport stress in swine and subsequent oxidative and immune responses. The National Pork Board has sponsored Lauren's research and is credited with developing the grant materials for that funding. During her program, Lauren has published (8) refereed journal articles, of which she is the primary author of seven. Additionally, she has (8) abstracts, (8) posters, and (2) invited popular press articles to her name. Lauren has been an instructor in four (4) different courses and designed online components of many undergraduate and graduate classes prior to and during the pandemic. She is active in extension education managing Horse Bowl and Hippology contests, the regional Academic Quadrathlon, and Junior Pork Day. She will complete her Ph.D. May of 2023 at which time she intends to obtain a post-doctoral position to continue developing her knowledge and training in endocrinology and immunology, using swine as a model.
