Ron Aldwin Navales is a PhD student and is originally from the Philippines. Ron is an Agriculture graduate major in Animal Science from the University of the Philippines – Los Baños in 2011. He obtained his MSc in Animal Science (Swine Nutrition) at South Dakota State University in 2018. During his master’s degree, he determined the efficiency of utilizing standardized ileal digestible (SID) Lys and Thr for whole body protein retention (kSID Lys and Thr) in pregnant gilts during early, mid, and late gestation using N-balance study.
Prior to his MSc, Ron worked for feed and feed additive companies as nutritionist for 5 years. After finishing his masters, Ron joined PIC Philippines, Inc. in July 2018 as nutrition specialist for Philippines and PIC Asia franchises in Japan and Viet Nam, providing nutrition and formulation services for commercial accounts and supply chain department. Additionally, Ron had been involved in PIC global nutrition team with trials and development of nutrition tools. He has done in-person technical presentations in the Philippines and Japan, and virtual presentations in Asia and Europe. While doing his PhD, Ron has an appointment of Technical Consultant for Nutrition in PIC Philippines and PIC Asia franchises.
Ron’s long-term goal is to become a global swine nutrition consultant. To achieve this, Ron intends to work for production or multinational genetics or nutrition companies after his PhD to gain more field experience and widen his connections. He believes that the technical knowledge he will obtain during his PhD and his 10-years’ experience in the local markets of Asia will bring value to the table for his future employer.
