Jamil is a post-doctoral researcher originally from Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. He is passionate about swine nutrition, production, research, technology, and innovation. He obtained his degree in Veterinary Medicine at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, in 2011. As an undergraduate, Jamil worked at the Swine Health, Production, and Reproduction Department for four years. During this period, Jamil conducted reproduction research on gilt and sow management and boar semen analysis in commercial swine operations. After completing his veterinary degree, Jamil worked at Brasil Foods for four years. His primary roles involved health and management assistance to sow farms, GDUs, nurseries, and finishers. In 2017, Jamil obtained his Master's degree at UFGRS, Brazil. In 2020, Jamil obtained his PhD at UFRGS and, during that time, spent a year as a visiting scholar with the K-State Applied Swine Nutrition Team under the direction of Dr. Mike Tokach. Jamil conducted on-site trials involving +3,600 pigs in Master’s, Brazil and Holden Farms, MN, focusing on management and nutrition of pigs with different weaning ages. He also studied the effect of the first week in the nursery on the future pig performance and the interaction between stocking density and feeder space. Besides applied management and nutrition knowledge, Jamil developed skills in leadership, experimental design, data management and analysis, and translation of scientific information. In 2020, Jamil joined Swine It as an account manager and head of digital content. In that period, he expanded his sales and innovative product development skills. In his current role as a Post-doc researcher, Jamil is engaged in all aspects of nutrition research, diet formulation, experimental design, professional presentations, industry surveys, protocol planning and implementation, data management, and literature reviews.
