Hilal Yazar Gunes is a dedicated PhD. student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she is actively engaged in pioneering research aimed at "Improving robustness and climatic resilience of US sheep breeds through genomics." Her passion for genomics and its potential to enhance the adaptability and resilience of livestock in the face of changing climates drives her work.
Hilal was not raised in a farm operation but was always keen on working on livestock-related things. She believes that it is in her blood. Her mother's side came from a nomadic culture that raises yellow goats in the Mediterranean area. After her bachelor's degree in animal science, she was able to raise her own sheep flock. She wants to do the same thing when she completes her PhD, but this time in a more sophisticated way.
